DIY Cleaning Products Using Essential Oils
Fresh Scents. Real Clean. No Weird Chemicals.
If you’ve ever walked into a space and thought “it smells clean in here” that’s the power of essential oils. And no, we’re not talking about overpowering perfume. We’re talking about natural oils that actually do the job: cutting through grease, tackling grime, and leaving your home smelling like a citrus grove (or a spa, depending on your mood).
Below are a few of our go-to recipes using essential oils to create non-toxic, effective cleaners. Ones we’d trust in our own homes (and yours).
1. All-Purpose Surface Cleaner
For counters, tables, and pretty much everything else.
You’ll need:
1 cup distilled water
1 cup white vinegar
15 drops lemon essential oil
10 drops tea tree essential oil
A spray bottle
How to make it:
Mix all the ingredients in your spray bottle, shake gently, and you’re good to go. Lemon helps cut grease and adds a fresh scent, while tea tree oil brings the anti-fungal, anti-bacterial power.
2. Glass + Mirror Cleaner
Streak-free, fresh-smelling shine.
You’ll need:
1 ½ cups distilled water
½ cup white vinegar
10 drops peppermint or lavender essential oil
A spray bottle
How to make it:
Combine ingredients in a spray bottle, shake well, and use with a microfiber cloth. Peppermint gives a crisp, clean smell and it can also help deter ants and other pests.
3. Toilet Bowl Cleaner
No harsh bleach smell, just clean.
You’ll need:
½ cup baking soda
½ cup white vinegar
10 drops eucalyptus or lemon essential oil
How to use it:
Sprinkle baking soda into the bowl, follow with vinegar and essential oil, let it fizz for 10 to 15 minutes, then scrub and flush.
4. Floor Cleaner (No Rinse Needed)
Especially good for wood or laminate floors.
You’ll need:
1 gallon warm water
½ cup white vinegar
10 to 15 drops orange, lemon, or pine essential oil
How to use it:
Mix and mop. That’s it. This leaves your floors clean, streak-free, and smelling like a sunny day.
5. Freshening Spray for Fabrics
Think Febreze, but make it Queendom.
You’ll need:
1 cup distilled water
2 tbsp witch hazel or vodka (helps disperse oils)
15 drops lavender and 10 drops eucalyptus or your favorite combo
A spray bottle
How to use it:
Spray on cushions, curtains, dog beds, or wherever needs a quick refresh.
A Few Quick Notes
Always shake before each use since essential oils don’t stay mixed on their own
Test on a small surface first if you’re unsure
Store in cool, dark places if you’re making large batches
Natural doesn’t mean weak. These essential oil-based cleaners work hard and smell better than anything you’ll pull off a store shelf.
